The Foundation has many aims, but the principal goal is to utilise the splendid environment enjoyed by Bill and his Bassbarr hounds , together with the incredible capacity of these wonderful dogs for unconditional love and devotion, to provide respite and rehabilitation for young adults with problems of alienation and loss of trust and motivation engendered by a variety of problems all too common in modern society.
It is hoped that residents will find here an atmosphere of acceptance, love and compassion, where they can learn to relate to the animals and to each other, and learn the importance of caring for our fellow beings, whilst benefitting from a healthy routine, diet and lifestyle.
The eventual aim is to fit disadapted youngsters for an eventual return to society and the workplace, whilst providing ongoing contact and support.
Whilst it is not intended to offer residential care to unaccompanied children, we would like to include the possibility of offering the chance for accompanied children to benefit from contact with our animals, either during preorganised visits, or , in special cases with particular children who are assessed as being especially likely to benefit,in weekend stays with their parents to assess the likely benefit of their taking a basset home as continued therapy, which the Foundation may be happy to provide, with follow up help and advice in the home environment. It is envisaged that the basset provided to these families would remain the property of the foundation, on long term loan to a suitable family for therapeutic purposes
